There are now ten Ontario area codes that are being utilized. It is not surprising, however, since Ontario local numbers are the most numerous local numbers in Canada. It can be attributed to the fact that Ontario is the most populated province and the second largest in Canada in terms of land area. It is only natural that it would also have the largest number of telephone numbers that are in operation. This being said, Ontario currently employs the use of 10 area codes to meet the demand for phone numbers. All of these Ontario area codes are used sporadically within the province with area code overlays.

The Ontario area codes are 226, 289, 343, 416, 519, 613, 647, 705, 807 and 905. Area code 226 is mostly used in Southwestern Ontario, having 519 as its area code overlay. Ontario numbers in that location might have either of the two area codes. Area code 289 is in operation in the communities of the Niagara Peninsula, Hamilton and Oshawa with area code 905 as its overlay. Ontario area codes 416 and 647 are being utilized in the city of Toronto. 343 and 613 are the Ontario area codes that are being used at Ottawa and other surrounding Eastern Ontario area. Most of Northeastern and Central Ohio works with the 705 area code. Ontario numbers that are located in the Northwestern Ontario area practices the 807 area code. There is also area code 249 that will be used as an overlay for area code 705 to supplement the future need of Ontario local numbers.

All of these area codes are used in Canada's 10-digit dialing system. With area codes as many as 10, callers within the Ontario area and those that are from other Canadian provinces will find a hard time in calling somebody from Ontario. This is because the 10-digit dialing requires a caller to input the area code first before dialing the Ontario local number. This system is very strict, that a missed dial would connect the caller to someone they do not even know. One wrong dial of a number would lead callers to other Ontario numbers, which would be frustrating for the caller. If this system is troublesome for customers, imagine what it could do to your business. Customers would not be able to reach you because they have failed to recall the appropriate area code of your company.

A minor problem like this could lead to complications that might affect your business. Customers that fail to reach your company after a couple of tries would be discouraged to try again and just call for the services of another company. This scenario does not bode well for your company. To avoid problems and complications, you must acquire a business phone system that would not only have numbers that are easier to recall but also encourage your clients to call your company more often.
